#391: Remedial Wall Tie Used in existing
cavity walls which are inadequately restrained as a result
of insufficient or badly corroded ties or where ties have
been omitted. It provides a quick, effective and economical
solution for securing and stabilizing masonry. This stainless
steel helical tie is dry set. The Remedial Tie cuts a threaded
groove into the masonry as it is driven into position through
a pre-drilled pilot hole. The end result is a strong and
permanent connection between wythes without the use of toxic
adhesives or rigid mechanical connectors. |

The Remedial Wall Ties are manufactured from Type 304 austenitic
stainless steel and thus provide excellent corrosion resistance. Available
in 7.5mm widths with material thickness of 2mm, Remedial
Ties are able to withstand anticipated loadings with enough
flexibility to allow for normal wall movement. Various tie
lengths are available to suit wall conditions. |

1.
Drill pilot hole to a predetermined depth through
the masonry and into the backup material using
a rotary percussion drill (3-jaw-chuck type).
For concrete block, normal strength mortar or
materials of similar density a 1/4" (6.5mm)
pilot hole is recommended. For concrete, high
density clay brick, or similar density material
a 7mm pilot hole is required. However, in all
cases, test drilling and pull out strength tests
should be performed in order to ensure correct
pilot hole size has been selected. |

2.
Load the Remedial Wall Tie into a drive tool which
is mounted to an electric hammer drill (SDS type).
The SDS hammer drill, in the hammer only setting,
is always used with the drive tool to insert the
Remedial Wall Tie. |

The
drive tool automatically recesses the tie into
the face of the masonry. |

4.
Once the Remedial Wall Tie installation is completed,
the pilot hole is ready to be filled and finished
with compatible material. |

Before
installing the Remedial Drive Ties the condition of
the inner wythe must be established. It is recommended
that a pullout test be performed to determine the actual
strength for your particular wall.
The correct length of the Remedial Tie should be established
taking into consideration the maximum and minimum cavity
width.
Penetration
into the inner wythe can be determined by the amount
of the tie left out from the adjustable Spiro Drive
Tool.
The
Remedial Drive Ties should always be installed by
suitable qualified contractors under the guidance
of the job engineer. The precise positioning of the
Remedial Drive Ties must be determined in conjunction
with the job engineer based on the results of the
pullout tests for your particular project. Product
