No.75 POS-I-TIE® Brick Veneer Anchoring Systems:

The POS-I-TIE® is a two piece system for attaching Brick Veneer to various existing backups. It incorporates a barrel-screw piece which allows easy installation using an ordinary drill with a special chuck adapter.

For backups with insulation or gypsum board, the screw penetrates the insulation, screws into the backup, and then prevents moisture penetration by sealing the hole in the insulation with a neoprene washer. The barrel makes a positive contact with the backup wall transferring all compression and tension loads to the backup wall and not to the insulation/gypsum board.

The screws are a part of the system; therefore, no inferior screws can be substituted. The barrel is manufactured of ZAMAC 3 - a 92% zinc alloy. The screws are heat treated and Stalgard® coated for maximum corrosion resistance.

Wire ties are available in Hotdip Galvanized After Fabrication or Stainless Steel.

BARREL LENGTHS
  • There are seven barrel lengths:
    • 5/8" (for 1/2" & 5/8" gypsum board)
    • 1" (for 1" insulation)
    • 1 1/2" (for 1" insulation with gypsum board)
    • 2" (for 2" insulation)
    • 2 1/2" (for 2" insulation with gypsum board)
    • 3" (for 2-1/2" insulation with gypsum board)
    • 3 1/2" (for 3" insulation with gypsum board, or 2-1/2" of insulation with two layers of gypsum board)

  • Once the barrel-screw is in place, the wire tie is installed into the barrel. The loop in the tie allows approximately 1-1/4" of vertical adjustment above and 1-1/4" below the barrel for placement in the brick veneer mortar join

WIRE TIES
  • There are three types of Brick Veneer wire ties, the Triangle Tie, and Single Tie (See below for Seismic Triangle Tie). Standard Tie lengths are 3", 3-1/2", 4", and 5". They are available in 3/16 diameter Mill Galvanized Steel, Stainless Steel, and Hotdip Galvanized After Fabrication.

ADVANTAGES

1. Uses consistent screw. The screw is provided as a part of the POS-I-TIE® System.
      - No inferior screws can be substituted.

2. Provides positive connections. Screw actually penetrates gypsum board making Positive Lateral Connection for       transfer of compression and tension loads to structural backup.

3. Enables speedy cost-saving installation. Only one screw needs to be placed, not two.

4. Corrosion Resistant. POS-I-TIE® seals the hole it makes when it seats itself in the backup. Barrel section is made       of ZAMAC 3, a 92% zinc. alloy. Screws are Zinc electro plated, coated twice, and baked in STALGARD®.

5. Differential Movement. Slotted Barrel allows for movement due to temperature variations. Tie design provides for       allowable ACI 530 code vertical adjustment.

6. Pos-I-Tie® Screw can be used to attach and secure the insulation to the backup.

INSTALLATION
  • Use a drill with a depth sensitive nose piece or a variable clutch adjustment. The barrel end of the POS-I-TIE® is placed into the reusable chuck adapter.
  • For steel studs drill the POS-I-TIE® through the gypsum board and into the metal stud.
  • For structural steel center punch prior to drilling. (High tensile steel or very thick steel may require pre-drilling a 3/16" (4.76 mm) hole.)
  • For concrete, CMU, or brick use the sleeve tool with drill bit. Pre-drill a 3/16" (4.76 mm) hole to a depth of 2" (51 mm).
  • Slide the sleeve tool over the drill bit and insert the CMU/Comcrete Screw into the chuck adapter. Torque screw into the pre-drilled hole.

Reusable chuck adapter and sleeve tool are available from Heckmann
